Drop in a save, pick a nation, and see where its capital and local governors would spread the most proximity — and so the most control and tax. It all runs in this page; your save is never uploaded.
★ capital ● governor ◆ suggested governor ☆ suggested capital · click a location, or a row in the tables, to see it on its own
A location's max control comes mostly from its proximity: 0.75% per point. Proximity starts at 100 in the capital and 80 at a local governor, and every step to a neighbouring location costs some — less along roads and rivers, more through hills, forests and mountains, cheap at sea where you have maritime presence. This page rebuilds that spread for your nation from the save and the game's map, then tries every location as a new governor or capital.
Each location's possible tax (its tax at full control, from the save) times the max control its proximity gives. Control drifts towards that maximum over years, so gains are what you'd see once it has settled. Integration, satisfaction, armies and buildings also move max control; they're left out, so treat gains as a way to compare places, not a promise.
The model re-derives your current proximity from your capital and governors and compares it to the value the save records for every location; the result shows how close it got. Your nation's own proximity bonuses (advances, laws, societal values) are folded into one factor fitted to your save. Routes over lagoons and short sea crossings are the least accurate part.
In a city with a road to the capital, not in the capital or a subject's land, and only as many as your advances allow (one from the Age of Discovery). Untick Only where one can be built now to see where one would pay off once you've upgraded a town or laid a road.
The capital rankings keep your existing governors where they are. A governor that loses its road to the new capital is removed by the game, so check the roads before moving.
